ABOUT THE CHURCH OF GOD

Our History and Heritage

The Church of God was established around AD 28 by Jesus Christ on the mount, Kurn Hattin (Mark 3:13-15). He was endowed with the power of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, but the Church was already in operation before this time.

The true Church plunged into apostasy in the Middle Ages on June 14, 325 AD, with the signing of the “Nicene Creed” and remained in obscurity for 1578 years.

From the year 325 A.D. In 1903, God saw what man did. He began to reveal the truth to men once more: Martin Luther-Justification by faith, John Wesley-Sanctification, Dr. Albert Simpson-Divine healing; (Although some received the Holy Spirit before 1903, it is generally considered to be the Pentecostal movement; it began with a Holy Spirit revival in Azusa California in 1906 – comments Dr. Seymour).

On June 13, 1903, The Church rises out of obscurity (as prophesied by Isaiah 60:1-5) in North Carolina.

In 1923, an upheaval caused a split in The Church, resulting in two groups, both calling themselves The Church of God. In 1933, God granted a Banner (Psalms 60: 3, 4), the flag of The Church, which is his Church, to those who feared him too much to be led astray from the truth. On May 2, 1952, “of Prophecy” was added to the name of the Church of God.

In 1990, the Church of God of Prophecy departed from theocratic rule. Through the Holy Spirit, God called a solemn Assembly that was held on July 23-25, 1993. On July 24, the Holy Spirit gave direction to separate us from the apostasy of the past three years, and to continue truly as The Church of God, and clearly designating Bishop Robert J. Pruitt, as the General Overseer. The Church of God returns to true theocracy.

This did not constitute a new organization, but the reorganization of the Church of God as the true theocracy of God, the exclusive Body of Christ:

    1. Which was created with the end of Christ and functioned in theocratic order until the year 325.
    2. Which emerged from the Middle Ages on June 13, 1903.
    3. Which remained faithful to God in “Faith and Practice, Government and Discipline” after the interruption of 1923.
    4. Which is doing the same since the similar discontinuation in 1993.

Details of the future are, of course, unknown, but God’s prophecies are clear regarding his Church. It’s late, but the glow of dawn is just ahead. Undoubtedly, perfection will be achieved, since it has already been declared to the Church of Christ, and “presents itself as a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but holy and without blemish.” (Ephesians 5:27; see also Revelation 19:6-9).
