The primary purpose of the band is to encourage and solicit missionary funds for domestic and world missions. The band is to assist the pastor in providing suitable methods to increase the missionary supply on the second Sunday of each month, as well as in the World March of Missions and October drives, and in other ways as may seem well to the band. Women’s Missionaries Band assists the Church in many different ways. Some of those ways are: help in the formation of the young women of the Church, help provide funds for homeland and other lands, help collect clothing for home and foreign mission fields, contribute to the development of the Church by its prayer groups, and help to visit the Church.

The Women’s Missionary Band is vital to mission efforts in which the ladies are in control, but in which every person can participate. It is a spiritual ministry and fundraising agency to help spread the Gospel throughout the world. Although there may be times when coffee, tea, and a donut may be appropriate, the Women’s Missionary Band is more than a Church society. It is a ministry of the Church.

The only satisfactory solution to fulfill the purpose of the BMF Department is for each member to enter the “prayer closet” and pray for inspiration and find God’s perfect will as to how to stimulate the release of the necessary funds to be able to to fulfill the Great Commission given only to the Church of God. Praying (reserving inspiration), planning and preparation (organization) will provide a place for the spirit of missions to prevail.

History of the Women’s Missionary Band
The Church of God is responsible for preaching the gospel. The doctrine is not kept hidden as a priceless treasure, but is to be made known to all men in its pure form. The Great Commission to preach the gospel was given to the Church: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you: and behold, I am with you always, until the end of the world… (Matthew 28:19-20). The Church is responsible for teaching all nations, all things. With this revelation came the understanding and inspiration for the Church to expand in the “Big Business Program” of 1928 that began the branching of the Church through departments or auxiliaries.

The Twenty-third Annual Assembly, held in Cleveland, Tennessee, was exceptional in that a number of actions that were taken have proven to be of great blessing to the advancement of the Church. A.J. Tomlinson, in his annual address to this Assembly, recommended that the women of the Church organize into bands for the purpose of promoting missions. Thus, the Women’s Missionary Band was born.
